A Musical Journey

I always enjoy a nice get away. Like taking a road trip with a couple of really close friends and just going for a long drive, not knowing for certain where we will end up but knowing which direction we’d like to go in and then just riding it out. One time my friend Dennis and I went on a road trip to Oregon to visit his mother and to also just get out of dodge for a few days. We were driving from a town called West Minster in Denver, Colorado.

It was such an enjoyable trip for us, one that I will never forget. We listened to all different kinds of music on this trip like from Classic Rock to Funk and from Funk to Old School, and then Reggae to Alternative. We started the trip out with a couple compilation CD’s of Nickelback Songs from four of their albums, like “Far Away”, “Rockstar”,” Gotta be Somebody”, and “Figured You Out”. I had never heard these albums all of the way through and should I say that after hearing them on this trip, I definitely became a fan.

So after Nickelback then it was James Brown, then after J.B. then it was Common, and then after that we listened to Slipknot. My friend Dennis was a big fan of the group Slipknot and he told me that he had just experienced a Slipknot concert a few months prior to this trip and he said that it was unlike any other concert he had ever been to. The energy was so electrifying at this show he said that he had failed to go to sleep that night. Me, I have never been a huge fan of Slipknot music because honestly I had never really engaged myself into listening to any of there stuff, with it being seemingly dark, although I must say that after listening to them on this trip, I certainly have a newfound respect for the group.

So, music was a big part of our enjoyment during this road trip. As many of you know that with road trips, it is always fun to have games to keep your mind going. So my buddy and I were doing this Trivium music game that I had learned on line that had to do with figuring out what songs go to which specific albums of whatever artists. It is a fun game if you know your music. If you’re not really knowledgeable in music then I would suggest playing something else, but for us it was fun because I would say that we are fairly educated in that field. We had a lot of laughs and reached a lot of depths during this journey.

With all the good conversation, music and game trivia’s we played it seemed as though time was evaporating so quickly and before we knew it we were already entering the outskirts of our destination. After many hours of driving we finally entered the little town of Lake Oswego, the city where Dennis’ mother lives, and how fulfilling it was to be arriving at our stopping point.

I have met a lot of people in the past who don’t really like road trips and I guess I can understand why a little, but to me, I absolutely love them. I love the scenery, the games, the music and just the fact that we are witnessing new environments of our beautiful world right before our eyes. It definitely helps when you are in good company as well. I will never forget that trip to Oregon as long as I live. The trip home was just as fun, if not more fun. We had plenty of time to recapture all the events that happened in our last few days of our little vacation and must I say that it was a trip to remember.
