I always remember the great movies that I see each year. For some reason, they are just able to stand out clearly in my mind especially if they sort of moved me in one way or another. A movie that stood out to me last year in 2007 was a film called “Juno”. With Ellen Page’ brilliant performance it is no surprise to me that she broke through in the movie industry.
After seeing the film “Superbad” I had a new respect for actor Michael Cera and had no doubt that he would do well in this movie either. He combines a dry and wittiness about him that gives him such a likeable personality. I thought he did a remarkable job in this movie. Not to mention, the Music from Juno was captivating as well. I remember telling my wife after we saw it in the theatre that we definitely have to buy Junos Soundtrack when it comes out in the stores.
I am a big fan of alternative-rock music, and so when I heard Sonic Youth’s “Superstar” and Kimya Dawson’s “So Nice So Smart” along with The Moldy Peaches “Anyone Else but You”, I knew for sure that this was certainly the soundtrack to add to my collection. The music was so good that I-tunes came out with a b-side adoption of fifteen tunes that were intended to be in the Academy Award winning film but didn’t make the cut. The B-sides almost adopted compilation picks right up with tracks from a lot of the same artists from the Juno Soundtrack, with highlights from the star Ellen Page doing her rendition of “Zub Zub”, more songs from Barry Louis Polisar, and plus two new tracks from Kimya Dawson, and many more.
It has been said that Kimya Dawson’s music has defined the original soundtrack. After seeing the movie, I couldn’t get some of these songs out of my head. I really enjoyed the movie “Thank you for Smoking” directed by Jason Reitman who was the director of Juno. I never heard of him before “Thank you for Smoking” came out and now that he directed Juno, I definitely have become a big fan.
Juno received the Best Film Award last year at the Rome International Film Festival as well as the Audience Award at the Stockholm Film Festival. At the Hollywood Film Festival, Ellen Page was recognized as a breakthrough actress and writer Diablo Cody took home the breakthrough screenwriter award. What a success this movie was. I would recommend to anyone who has never seen the movie to go out and see it, and especially if you are, or were, a first time single parent or you have dealt with the issue of being pregnant at a young age then guaranteed you will have a special place in your heart for this movie.
My wife loved this movie and was touched by it because she is one who relates to Juno Macduff by her also being presented with the same ultimatum in her life. It was quite refreshing for the both of us to watch this movie together. We felt really good after watching this movie and so when it came out on DVD, you know we had to get it. I got the jumbo deluxe Juno Movie Soundtrack for my wife for her birthday because I knew that I couldn’t go wrong with that decision. With such a phenomenal cast including Jason Bateman and Jennifer Garner this movie was sensational, a definite two thumbs up! I wonder if they will ever write another one and come out with a Juno number two story.
With a cast like this one it would be hard not to be a success. I had never seen these actors portray these kinds of characters before. It was unlike any version I’ve seen them play. After watching Juno I realized why it was nominated for so many awards and won. There’s nothing like watching a good movie with a great story behind it.
